The Pakleni Islands (Paklinski otoci) are an archipelago of 16 pine-forested islands stretching 10 kilometres along the coast of Hvar. The name comes from paklina — the pine resin once used to seal wooden boats — and has nothing to do with the Croatian word for hell!
The islands offer some of the most beautiful secluded coves and beaches in the Adriatic. The most popular destination is Palmižana on the island of Sv. Klement, home to a beautiful sandy beach, crystal-clear water and a famous waterfront restaurant surrounded by a lush botanical garden.
